By attending spaces managed by Warwick Pride, both in person and online, you agree to abide by the following safe space policy. You can also expect such spaces to be managed by the executive committee according to the following safe space criteria which protects people on the grounds of (but not limited to) gender identity, sexuality, age, ethnicity, religion (or otherwise), ability or disability.
All attendees must respect the confidentiality of others’ identities (sexual or romantic orientation or gender identity), which includes not disclosing said identities to others without express permission. This includes ‘indirectly’ outing people through social networks via photos, statuses etc.
Any form of bullying or harassment will not be tolerated.
Prejudice, hate-speech, discrimination and identity-policing in all its forms is forbidden, including but not limited to when it pertains to the following identities:
- people from an ethnic minority
- gay people
- lesbian people
- bi people
- trans* people
- undefined people
- people on the asexual spectrum
- people on the aromantic spectrum
- queer people
- poly people
- non-UK residents/people who define as international
- people with a disability (both ‘seen’ and ‘unseen’)
- people with mental health issues
- people of (or not of) faith
- people of any political affiliation
- people of any class
- people who are HIV+
- people of any age
- people in consensual non-normative relationships
The forms which such behaviour may take include:
- language or action which is homophobic, biphobic, transphobic, acephobic, sexist, racist or ableist,
- oversight which is homophobic, biphobic, transphobic, acephobic, sexist, racist, ableist, classist or bodyshaming,
- invasive questions,
- undermining someone’s identity (e.g. through intentional or repeated mis-gendering/incorrect use of pronouns),
- personal attacks, be they verbal or physical,
- swearing or disrespectful language used at others.
Due consideration should be given to discussing sensitive topics, including giving trigger warnings/content warnings where appropriate. Trivialising sensitive issues, or failing to consider the effect of your discussions on those around you comes under the purview of this policy.
You attend Warwick Pride spaces accepting that discrimination on the grounds of the identities above exists, that it must be challenged and that our Society exists for the purpose of challenging it on both day-to-day and institutional levels.
The Warwick Pride executive committee are tasked with enforcing the safe space policy. You should comply immediately with their requests. If you disagree with their actions, please email email@example.com.
If you feel that the safe space policy has been violated in any way, be it against yourself or another person, you can report it in the following ways:
- To an exec member on duty (or otherwise) in person
- To an exec member by message or email (see here for full email listings)
